I have just finished installing SQL Server 2016, it was needed to change the collation setting after install, this was my process.

  1. Stop the all SQL Server related services
  2. Open a Command Prompt as Administrator and Navigate to the Binn directory of your installed instance
  3. Apply a New SQL Server Collation

Execute the command below: a lot of information will appear and no user action is required.

sqlservr -m -T4022 -T3659 -s"SQL2016" -q"Latin1_General_BIN"

The parameter “-s” is only necessary if more than one SQL Server instance exists on the target machine.
Latin1_General_BIN is now the new collation.

Restart Sql Server service
